Where?

Oh! he was everywhere
Tattooed in the in inside of my hand
Innately part of my endless rants
Lurking behind my classroom seat
Waiting outside my dance meets
On top of my list of crushes
Making out behind my backyard bushes
Filling the inside of my head
The muse of the poems I made
Like a voice on the phone
The only boy not Friend-zoned
As letters hidden in my desk
Like a tingling between my legs
In photographs and in songs
Right beside me downing vodka shots...

Only he wasn't there for the entire ride
Like he was supposed to be
Even though he said,
"You're my wild light -
What a lovely life it will be!"

Life doesn't always end up like we plan it to be.

Clouds

He hovered over me like a cloud
And I was always in its shadows
It was the worst kind of love
If there is a worst kind

I was besotted
How could I have not known
In the end I lay in a heap
Crumpled and left behind

I was happy nonetheless
Finally my days were cloudless

Note: I understood the importance of all the good things in the present because of all the clouds in my past.

Fond

it wasn't perfect
it was a broken mess
a rubble of jealous fires
and stolen glances
angry kisses and
endless chances

I was quite fond of him.

Still am.

It wasn't great, but it was!

Faces

if people saw
as much
beauty
in words
as they did
in faces

the world
would be a
beautiful book
of poems and
we its pages

Most of the times I wonder what causes people to see the beauty in other's faces and not their words. That hideous doctored profile pictures should receive more validation than honest comprehensible sentences is quite out of my fathomable imagination. Is the world any less a poem? No, but it sure does fail to elicit the appreciation it deserves.

Mirrors

Funny how people
imprint
on other people

Maybe one soul
does live nine lives

I still see her each day
he has his mother's hazel eyes
and my wife's crooked smile.

We see so much of someone in someone else. Maybe nobody dies after all. Aren't we mirrors reflecting so much more than just what we are?

Fireworks

Sunny dresses
And bare toes
On the grass
Colored lips
Sipping coronas
Heady conversations
With green eyes
Under a clear sky
Time flies...

The day rolls
Into the night
In silence
And in laughter
With the touch of a finger
A tinge of blush
All the things I love
And fireworks.

Ever felt like a firework about to go off when you met someone that filled you with happiness? Yeah! that's exactly what I am talkin' about. Good day people! I hope you all have a day full of everything you love.

For the love of......

For some very weird reason I have always had a knack of getting attracted towards old faded stuff. I cannot help myself but get drawn towards faded, old battered clothes, yellowed books, rusted jewellery, old men (George Clooney – Sexy!!) or anything else for that matter. I love the rustiness of it all and the urge to rescue them overpowers me. Each of them has a story. The slick lines on their body, the washed colours, and the broken edges, torn like scars on a soldier. So yeah that’s me probably being weird for the rest of the world but well, I hardly care!

On a recent shopping spree, I invariably got engaged in an endless haggling match with a second-hand book vendor. Unfortunately since I do not have a continuous stream of money flowing into my pocket and the vendor refused to budge from his quoted number, the effort went in futile. This left me in a rather sad and grumpy mood, to which effect my friend innocently asked, “Why do you need to go to desperate lengths to get a few torn dilapidated books?”

I looked at him, aghast and delved into a rather long and breathless speech; that for him must have been French.

“..Because those very torn, old books have something to say! Secrets to be unravelled! There’s a certain mystique about them and combined with the intoxicating aroma of those aged pages, they are a masterpiece. I do not simply buy them, it’s a rescue act! They are rehabilitated from dark, dingy, make-shift roadside shelves to the warm, cosy insides of polished teakwood cabinet, away from the prying hands of ignorant sellers, rough stinky fingers replaced by adoring, careful ones leafing through delicate pages. The feeling of abandonment replaced by the happiness of being loved and finally finding camaraderie amongst the neighbouring fiction or the-next-shelf romance novel. For me books are living breathing entities with souls of their own!!”
So that was more than enough to shut him up! Yes, I do agree that it would need a hell lot of imagination to believe in all of it but frankly I think we should have a Book Revolution, one that is aimed at garnering respect for books and understanding their worth.

Ode to my books:
Pretty books sitting quiet and prim
Neatly stacked piles of adventures, all for keeps
What they stand for is what most miss
But they’ll still be my dearest lovelies!!

Those Were The Days!!

It’s that time of the year again, when you cannot help but feel good. It’s neither too hot nor too cold. Fall has almost come to an end and new leaves are already on their way. All around, there are fresh happy colours of flowers, trees, fruits and what not. In the daytime the sun is warm and bright while the evenings are cool and breezy.

This time of the year always reminds me of my childhood years with my little brother. As kids, I and my brother would be beyond elation and excitement when spring set in. This was that time of the year when we had tons of stuff to keep us busy. Gorging on cornflakes, dancing to Scooby-Doo tunes, taking rounds on our sparkly purple Hero Cadet (our beloved bicycle), playing gully cricket with the neighbourhood boys, watching WWE, Pokémon, Aladdin and what not! Downing glasses of milk, fighting over bigger omelettes or fluffier pillows, bickering over who cheated and who actually won bouts of Carom or Chinese checkers!!
It’s actually sad that as time is passing by sibling relationships are becoming more and more impersonal. Talk about generation gaps, everything from technology to trends to youth slangs is changing so fast that kids born even three years apart do not feel the warmth of being siblings. I’ve seen friends that have certain professionalism around their kid brothers and sister. They greet each other as if greeting a minion in office. There is just the emotionless acknowledgement that goes like; “Raj” (with a cursory head nod) and “Nikhil” (with a similar bob of the head). There’s no friendly punch or a heart-warming bear hug or sly name-calling. I mean the fun, warmth, love, possessive-ness, protective-ness, mock rivalry is somehow lost!

There’s no sharing or inside jokes to make memories and look back on when you are all grown up. I don’t know what the world is coming to but all this seems very robotic. Maybe the camaraderie is the sacrifice you make while you are trying to win the rat-race and your own brother/sister is just another competitor.
The next generation will never care about the joys of sipping on Pepsi cola or fighting over the remote control of the TV or sharing school gossip. What a sad sad notion!!

The days of hide n seek, scrabble and crazy fun playing outdoor games on summer holidays are really over with the advent of Play stations, Tabs and Smartphones but man those were the days!

A valentine's for all of us!

So I was watching T.V. and 'The Middle' was on. For those of you who don't know-it's a series with  a bunch of weird characters whom if you come across while playing with the remote just to pass time, will probably keep skip channels without a second thought; but since I had taken a pledge (not so long ago) to give every-thing/one a chance before jumping into conclusions, decided to stick around for the first 10 minutes and Voila!!! A really sweet, light, funny entertainer was discovered (of course by me! duh!).

The episode today centered around the lately-much talked-about Valentine's Day. While the husband and wife in the episode grappled with 'How to celebrate the day this year', their 9 year old son grappled with how to come up with enough credible matter for his paper due next week and he had to get an A but the catch was the topic "The importance of Valentine's Day". Wasn't that a bit too heavy on a 9 year old?

By the time the episode neared it's end my mind was spinning! Food for Thought: What indeed is the importance of this D-day that many keep waiting for while other curse at it's arrival!? There are so many opinions and judgments revolving around the way it is celebrated. Some buy expensive gifts and feel their work is done while some suffice with just a rose; then there are some who make elaborate projects out of making cards or handcrafting presents for their loved ones yet there are also some who meticulously go about planning an entire day (getting presents, flowers, champagne, movie tickets, dinner reservations so on and so forth), arguably a perfect day and the rest some just end up doing nothing.

When the little voice in their head tells them, "Don't you think you should do something?", they go "Naaaah ... my partner's awesome he/she already know how much I love him/her!! We don't need showy rituals!?!"

WHAAAAT SERIOUSLY????????

So now the question is in which category of these "Some" do you fall in?
Of course there's love 24x7, 365 days a year even when we are grumbling or fighting but isn't it worthwhile to be excited about this one day to celebrate your bittersweet love?
No one feels special every single day so would it really hurt to take the effort to make someone feel special for at least a day? So what's so difficult about spreading some happiness and being happy in the process? It is never about the money but about little gestures, which do happen unexpectedly now and then but we are just a bunch of lazies and busies to notice even if it stared us right in the face. We pass them by without so much as a 'Thank You'

So yes a Valentine's Day is necessary 'cause that's the only time of the year we our eyes (and minds) are open to what might happen 'cause we are wired that way. Wired to remember a few days that we expect to be memorable and valentine's is one of those few apart from our birthday. It's not necessarily about romance, it's a father's day mother's day friendship day all rolled into one. It's about a letter or a card, about togetherness and a walk-down-memory lane.

We always bring our best to people who don't even last in our lives even a month 'cause we are touchy about our "image", but how about bringing our best to people who really matter?! We are never going to say "that particular Thursday in September was a great surprise. Thanks!" <smiles> But we always say "Last year's Valentine's s*cked. Nothing happened"
So make it happen. If not for others then for yourselves. Like the closing line from that 9 year old's paper rightly said "Great stories are not made of great stuff, they are made of little gestures!"
